It also comes in camo colors you can apply one layer at a time or mix together for custom camouflage patterns. Etch washing aluminum before painting removes surface oxidation and improves paint adhesion, but this paint does not require any kind of primer to stick. Updated formula means it adheres better to clean metal. No more finish peeling or lifting. Use a brush, roller, or spray gun to easily apply this water-based polyurethane to prepared substrates. You'll also finish faster because Aluminum Boat paint dries extremely fast. At 72 degrees F, it's ready to overcoat, with no sanding between coats. Before the final coat, wait 12 hours, sand lightly and remove residue. Let the final coat dry for 48 hours, and you're ready to put the boat in the water. Chromate-free finish has a low VOC content of 75 g/L, very little odor, and cleans up easily with soap and water.
