In 1925-1926, Poul Henningsen (PH) created a three-screen lighting system, collaborating with Louis Poulsen to debut it at a Paris exhibition. PH's lifelong pursuit was to create direct, glare-free lighting using incandescent bulbs for soft shadows. The PH 2/1 Stem Fitting is part of the 30-light family, including three outdoor models, demonstrating PH's system approach, with over a thousand variations, including table, floor, wall, and chandelier lamps. Early metal screens had white, gold, or silver interiors for diffused, warm, or cool light. Later, glass screens projected light downwards and illuminated the room. PH pioneered scientific lighting, using the lituus curve for uniform light distribution and reduced glare. Screen size determines the model number, with 'pure' models like 2/2 having matching intermediate and lower screens. The PH 2/1 Stem Fitting, introduced in 2003, is a 'hybrid' model with a 20cm top screen but 1/1 lower screens for lower hanging heights.
