Derived from the venerable M92FS, the American Mil-inspired spec. M9 pistol was the next iteration of the standard issue US military sidearm. When slated for factory-spec component, the Airsoft 1911 platform had already served the US for over 50 years. With a possible war with the Soviets on the horizon, the Pentagon began a search for a new service pistol chambered in 9X19 to reduce rounds supply chain issues with NATO. Of all the competing designs, the Beretta M9 won all three competitions and was adopted by all branches in 1985. The M9 is a short recoil, semi-automatic, single-action / double-action pistol that uses a 15-round staggered box mag with a reversible control button that can be positioned for either right- or left-handed operators. The M9 is used with the Bianchi M12 Holster, though other holsters are often used. The mil-specific changes include wear resistant finish, hard chromed barrol, modified trig protector and universal components.
