Frequently asked questions
What is Careersa and who is it for?
Careersa is a mentorship and career development platform designed for postsecondary students, recent graduates, newcomers to Canada, career changers, and professionals seeking growth. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to advance your career, you’ll find resources suited to your needs.
How can Job Alerts help me?
Job Alerts provide you with job postings that match your profile and interests. They save you time by filtering out irrelevant opportunities and keep you updated on roles that fit your career goals. This helps you stay focused and apply to the right positions more quickly.
How do I find the right mentor?
You can browse our list of mentors by industry, expertise, and availability. Each mentor’s profile includes their background, experience, and areas of specialization. If you’re unsure, our team can also recommend mentors based on your background needs.
What happens after I book a mentorship meeting?
Once you have booked an appointment, you’ll receive a meeting link and details. You can also communicate with your mentor through the messaging board at the bottom right. You may share your resume, cover letter, or job postings. If mentors don’t reply in the messaging board, they will answer your questions during the meeting.
What topics can I discuss in a mentorship meeting?
You can discuss everything including career goals, job search strategies, resume and cover letter improvements, interview preparation, career switching, industry insights, and long-term planning. Mentors are flexible and adapt to your needs.
Can I change my mentor later?
Yes. If you feel that another mentor might be a better fit, you can switch. Some mentees choose to engage with multiple mentors to gain diversified experiences, expert insights, and broader perspectives.
What’s the difference between A-Level and P-Level mentorship?
A-Level mentorship (Advisory) is the starting point for all mentees. It is booked session by session and is designed for focused guidance. Some mentees begin with A-Level and later upgrade to P-Level when they want more structured support. P-Level mentorship (Placement) provides end-to-end job support, including progress tracking, skill assessments, career planning, and ongoing mentor guidance toward securing a role. Unless otherwise specified, all mentees are enrolled under the A-Level mentorship model.
Can I cancel my subscription and mentorship appointment?
Yes. You can cancel both your subscription and mentorship appointments, but different rules apply. If you cancel a mentorship appointment, you must follow the cancellation policy on the platform to ensure fairness to both mentees and mentors. Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time, and your access will continue until the end of the current billing period. Please note that refunds are not provided for partially used subscription periods.
Do mentors go through a verification process?
Yes. Every mentor is screened through interviews and reference checks. Only those who meet Careersa’s standards of expertise, professionalism, and professional conduct are showcased on our platform.
Do mentorship meetings and programs guarantee successful placement?
No. Our mentorship meetings and programs are designed to enhance your opportunities, but employment cannot be guaranteed. Outcomes depend on many factors, such as your personal situation, prevailing market conditions, and employer needs.
How is my career progress tracked?
For P-Level mentorships and Pro Plan subscribers, a structured tracking schedule is jointly managed by Careersa and your mentor. Tracking helps identify gaps in your job search, develop action plans and strategies, and support continuous improvement in your skills and overall competitiveness while keeping your progress visible, measurable, and aligned with your career goals.
